An Account Payee Cheque in SBI simply means, when you draw two parallel lines on the left corner of the cheque and write the words “Account Payee” between those two lines. Some people write it as “A/C payee”. Do remember that when you cross a cheque, the funds can only reach the account of the person, and cannot be encashed at a branch counter.

How to Write a Cancelled Cheque in SBI ?

A Cancelled Cheque in SBI is one which is crossed with the word “Cancelled” is written on it. Except this, you do not need to write anything else on the cheque. As soon as you cross the cheque and write the word cancelled on it, no one can use or misuse this cheque. However, the cheque can be used to provide the account number, cheque number and MICR code to whosoever concerned.

Cancelled Cheques may be used for :

  • KYC for various investments like mutual funds, stock investments, etc.
  • ECS – Electronic clearance service (ECS).
  • For completing the process of assigning EMIs for various types of loans such as home loans, car loans, education loans etc. the bank/company would ask for a cancelled cheque.
  • EPF Withdrawal
  • Insurance policy
  • Demat account
